El Niño Que Fui: Autobiografía de un niño con Síndrome de Asperger (La Trilogía de @SoyAspie nº 1) – In Spanish
The Child I Was is about Asperger’s and bullying seen first-hand.
The book is about my childhood as a child with a little-known disability, but not about what the textbooks say about the syndrome, but about how I experienced it.
All children with the condition are different and manifest it in different ways, but because it is not easy to hear a child with autism or Asperger’s syndrome talk about what he feels and thinks as a direct or indirect effect of his condition or bullying, reading this book can help you a little with the understanding of what it is like for a child to live with Asperger’s or to be a victim of bullying.
This has been made public to me by people who follow me on social networks from more than fifteen countries in Europe, America and Oceania, stating that reading my writings helps them to better understand their children or students, or even themselves in cases where people with the condition read me.
The book is recommended for parents of children with autism, so that they know what their children may be feeling, even if they do not say it at some point in their lives; for primary and secondary school teachers, so that they have an illustrated idea of the warning signs that could help them guide parents to refer children for evaluation for early diagnosis or exclusion; and for pediatricians, psychologists, psychiatrists and therapists who want to have an additional idea of what the theory says.
In fact, the book you have in your hands is not a theoretical book, nor is it based on research or scientific studies; here I tell you my testimonies and experiences as a child who, being within the autistic spectrum, had to suffer and how he had to become strong to survive and learn without any of the tools and support that, thank God, our children have today.
It is precisely so that all children with this condition have the right support and tools that I want there to be at least one book like this in every school and in every family in the world, to raise awareness and build bridges from what you know today to what will be revealed to you after reading this book. In this way we will not only be changing the world but literally saving many lives.
